A great way to ring in the new year shooting Lady Gaga and a bunch of other cameos for Nivea and Rooster Worldwide. Rob Gilbert is a kick ass DP and the team at Rooster is definitely building big credentials which are quickly opening doors for them. Awesome shoot for GhettoNerd Director Clifton Bell for the Roots. All I can say is we got down to business and made a short film that tells the coming of age story of Red a character who was and is a product of so many urban environments that gravitates to desperate acts and whose insight and understanding is not life lived as his life is cut short. This project was particularly important to me in several respects. One I love working with Cliff and GhettoNerd, and Two I love the filmmaking process. Deeper than that though were the subtle nuances that are not readily apparent to the average person. Authenticity is something that I am big on and characters and structure are all intertwined - so we needed an environment that spoke about this condition. Patterson NJ resonated and really provided a great back drop for this story. The action day was the icing on the cake. I love action and 2nd Unit stunts as that's where my Roots are going back to feature film. Love the track Make My and definitely excited about the album. Can't really disclose too much about the creative on this one as its still ongoing - but we knocked out three cool commercials for Skype for their UK agency and associates which was challenging in that there were a number of technical hurdles to accomplish and ensure we met the mark for where they wanted to go post-wise. That's something we are looking to really strengthen in 2012. There are a number of companies that have boutique areas specializing in one aspect of production. We seek to bring all of that under one umbrella and you call one number and we get it done to spec period. You tell us what you want how you want it and we'll make it happen. If we don't have it - we'll find it. And if we don't know about it we'll find someone that does - which is what we did on this job as there was some challenging audio elements. We put together the team that they were happy with. Thanks to Skype and all the surprise bands that were a part of this. Looking forward to raising the bar with more Ad Agencies.

Nokia N8 Chicago shoot promoting the new Nokia N8 which is actually a pretty awesome phone the 12 Megapixel camera has really sharp image. Producer Elspeth Brown did a great job of following the creative on this which largely consisted of an interactive twitter feed which I can't really share the details of. All I can say is we are proud to be expanding into global markets and doing creative for known brands and increasing the creative span of NYLAHD. In 2012 we hope to really step up the presence as being the company that quality Ad agencies, production companies and independent producers can seek out to create and produce their concepts and content no matter what the scale. We are quietly laying an infrastructure that will definitely garner us as a company committed to excellent work.

Nokia and Elle in search of a style correspondent was a global competition that received thousands of submissions. It came down to eight participants - all blogging to be the winner of Nokia's Style Correspondent and featured in January issue of Elle. The winning criteria was a combination of fashion blogging and the use of Nokia N8's smart phone to capture the NYC fashion experience. UK agency 1000 heads reached out to NYLAHD to capture the entire experience the eight finalists experience while in NYC during fashion week. It was an exciting week complete with celebrities, fashion shows, dinners, famous bloggers - so famous they name apparel after them! And of course NYC night life. Producer Elspeth Brown did an amazing job considering the amount of locations, production obstacles - such as competing paparazzi, and the run and gun DSLR set ups with separate audio. The team was slimmed down and the footage looks great - definitely looking forward to the edit and more work with 1000 Heads. Back in New York for a quick studio shoot that ended up being changed and changed again for cameo schedules and then a different track. Ace Hood has a really great sound and great delivery. I'll be honest to say when I heard the name and knew the variables I was like another hip hop video who? After listening to the track and seeing Ace perform he will definitely surprise you. I Can't Get Enough of Barbados!!! What an awesome shoot with a terrific crew for artists J Cole & Tre Songz and a surprise cameo.
I wish I could post some of the set photos which really highlight what a great shoot this was but I understand they are keeping a tight wrap on this project until its release. This project will definitely put Clifton Bell on the map for some large scale productions.
I was grateful that Cliff asked me to assistant direct and come down and keep things on schedule. We had a number of challenges one of them being they decided to shoot a completely different video the day before we were scheduled to shoot which left everyone scrambling to accommodate the new treatment. Another challenge was communication. Going into a different country with a mixture of US and local crew with no walkies was challenging to coordinate multiple set ups, company moves and logistics of equipment and resources involved. Despite all the obstacles, I have a new appreciation for the video commissioner who made me a true believer. There is definitely a method to her madness and this video was far better than what was originally proposed. The crew, director and talent really brought this one home. I am really grateful to have been a part of this and it will be stand out work. Brandon Cox DP shot on 2 Epic M's and one exciting detail is switching batteries by Jet Ski when the camera is on one boat and the equipment on another. Special thanks to the people of Barbados who were awesome. I hope I can return there soon!

Imelda May "Road Runner" shot on location in New York City with multiple locations and a roof top performance. I am really excited to have the opportunity to land our first working relationship with Decca, Shameless, Universal UK. Basically its pretty common that LA and other major cities have strong production companies to look to for large projects with short turn around times. New York is pretty open. We seek to be that 'go to company' for every type of production from independent to large scale multi-day shoots. When Decca reached out we only had a few days prep, and there were several challenges as we were communicating with the 6 hour time difference and answers and decision making needed to be undertaken quickly if we were going to be able to accomplish the treatment which involved multiple set ups. Derek Pike was great to work with because he cares about the work and is very focused. A lot of times directors have an idea of what they want but are not conscious of company moves, set up and break down times, external factors that may affect production, and time. Derek literally shot for the edit and was right on schedule. The production was seamless and the dailies look great. I'm definitely looking forward to more projects with the UK. I would also like to thank the Mayor's Office and the New York City Parks Department who were extremely accommodating under the tight turn around given. This was a very well orchestrated multiple location shoot with multiple cameras and production variables involved. The footage, track, and the crew worked tirelessly to get the best product given the budget. This one is definitely going to make some heads turn. Company Expansion

After a six month hiatus Brendan Cochrane and NYLAHD are back in business. There should be a New York Times article coming out shortly which will detail the brief hiatus and which will definitely illuminate the company and personal challenges faced and overcome.
I'm definitely grateful to my fiance Elspeth Brown who held down the company during my absence. Coming from the dance world with aspirations to direct and produce Elspeth will add a different dynamic to the company which I am excited to see as we are already in pre-production on new original programming. We have expanded to a brand new team and are transitioning into original content and new media production. We will of course continue to build upon the success of the music video and commercial world - continuing to build and grow with solid relationships with both companies and people that have gone on to do some great work. The new frontier will see NYLAHD as the premier 'go to' company from everything from commercials, music videos, and viral campaigns to narrative and original programming. We have added some team members which over time you will see blossom and grow as new and exciting projects develop. For now its back to work and stay tuned because its about to be on!

A great shoot for Eye's of a Blue Dog Dance Company. Shot on location at my residence on Red MX this was a dual dance and narrative piece geared for promotional use by the dance company. Getting full coverage was challenging with a set of primes and one camera and having the short light days we are now having but we got it done and everyone worked really well. Another good shoot with Director Frank Blanco and Johnny & Marcos. Shot in Sandy Hook NJ NYLAHD provided camera support to Florencio Films. This gave me a chance to test out my new camera cart with back up battery and Mitchell Mount and Monitor stud.
The cart has now been officially upgraded to have a 27" iMac for dailies which is popular in the photo world. I feel confident that with budgets coming back and people demanding the latest and greatest technical support having large scale dailies and the addition of two 17" Mac Books on set color and editing will be a popular resource. Good shoot overall - first time working with Marshall Coles who is very talented.

A terrific action packed shoot with The Thrill Mill and Director Noah Posnick for Cra-Z-Art's Super Blox. We shot in Mendham NJ on a large estate with about twelve mini set ups involving Marines, Firefighters, Police, and an Astronaut all descending on a house and making their way to a kids room where they need more Super Blox. Going into the project I was concerned about the daylight and the amount of coverage we needed as well as the transitions and whether the crew could work cohesively to pull this off. Being an effective producer means being able to keep the crew and client happy and get the job done to the T.
The crew I put together did an awesome job - they were flawless. I have to say this was probably the most efficient crew I have worked with to date. Redman busting out with another diabolical classic directed by Clifton Bell. This video relied heavily on Art Department and I have to say that Lesley Morphy of LAM studios really came through with some pretty awesome set ups especially given the parameters she was working with. Don't want to give away too much about the video so you will have to check it out but its definitely got some stand out moments. Got a chance to put NYLAHD's new camera cart to the test. Its definitely a production asset and now I have back up battery location power for DIT work. Listening to other producers talk about the budgets of yester year was pretty deflating given the current state of things but with good work comes good projects, people, and opportunities -and that is my motto if you do good work the phone will ring which it is. Mikey Jibs of NYC jibs came out and brought his skills for the performance which consisted of a motorcycle crew, ATV trickster, Fetti & Co and a sexy lady. You really notice the difference between Red & 7D. You can light it put big lenses on it but at the end of the day Red really pushes the envelope with picture quality. A lot of people may not know that Parris shoots really well. It was his words at the end "I definitely got to shoot more Red." Steadicam shoot in the East Village for independent artist Fetti for Goreela Inc. Parris orchestrated an elaborate one take tracking shot of artist Fetti as he passes and interacts with an assortment of characters. The challenge to the video was the lock ups. This brought me back to the old big feature days when we used to literally shut down blocks. Unfortunately you need the budgets for that so we were working with a renegade skeleton crew but the crew delivered - to the point where a week later we shot another video for the same track!

Probably the largest job I have done to date in terms of being the GO TO company for Red Digital and camera support services. Producer Joel Kretschman and production company The Wilderness needed reliable camera services with a company that could be on call 24/7 for any issue as well as multiple Reds for a pretty interesting Verizion/Samsung job. The trick to this job was sticking to the creative and shooting revolving phone's with an assortment of backgrounds and textures. DP Ivan Abel did a great job of executing the vision. The commercial is currently running. Clients are also happy with NYLAHD because they can pay by credit card Amex, Visa, or Mastercard and don't have to worry about insurance or pick up and delivery and they can order a la carte or go with packages. With that said its been a while since I updated the blog. Passion Pictures of London had producer Joel Kretschman and DP Jon Bregel on board to shoot a commercial for the popular Emergen-C. Jon reached out for NYLAHD's Red services and wasn't disappointed. A little known fact about NYLAHD is that the company can supply practically every type of production resource you need - within the budget you are working with. With every Angenieux in New York booked - Arri Master Zoom was the choice and is a fantastic lens. Just got back from a great shoot with Justin Bieber helmed and produced by Roy Lamanna of Trendsetter Media and Marketing. Roy reached out for some production assistance for a studio shoot for the song U Smile. The first day was at a white cyclorama studio in Indiana Matt Workman director of photography. The second day was at his concert in Ohio. First time operating Red Hand held at a concert going from front row to the balconies capturing b-roll and thousands of screaming and dedicated fans. It was amazing to see the efficiency and major production that goes into concert production. These guys live on the road and pack up and break down gear like a swiss clock as soon as one venue is wrapped its on to the next one with everything moving in a convoy. Another true player - Ron Isley! Classic shoot with Ron Isley and Clifton Bell. First day was at Avatar Recording studios in a very spacious and stylish recording studio. Matt Workman DP first time working with Cliff and he definitely brought a sparkle to the stylized jib shots. Second day was in DUMBO with a 1963 Rolls the same one used in American Gangster in the scene where Denzel is reminded of pay off's on his wedding day. Bruce Cole surprisingly showed up after shooting a pretty big concert.
The outdoor shots were definitely a nice compliment and I am looking forward to more shoots with these guys MX on the way!

Been so busy haven't updated the blog but the Dream video was shot right after the Rick Ross video. I have never been in a situation where a director is writing a treatment on a plane for a video the following day only to be told they sent him the wrong track. And guess what yes they want a video shot with a boat, Lamborghini, mansion and beatiful girls. Which producer makes that happen? Three is a charm Brendan Kyle Cochrane. Working with Parris and Bruce was a nice reprieve from the hood life of Little Haiti. We got to experience a little of the finer aspects of Miami life which I could definitely get used to. I think when you work with good people and have the tools I can be thrown into any environment with virtually any budget and deliver what the client wants. I definitely love working with Parris and Goreela Inc and hope he lands the kinds of jobs I know he's capable of. Props to Matt for the Fat Joe video looking forward to the next chapter on a lot of stuff that will surely turn some heads.

An eventful video for artist Rick Ross "Blowing Money Fast" shot in Little Haiti in Miami and also in New York this video will surely be an exciting one to remember. There are not too many crew members let alone DP's who can handle true hood life. Bruce Cole cuts his chops in the sewers of inner cities as well as the caviar laced tables of Beverly Hills. That's why I love working with Bruce - not taking anything away from any other DP. But when you know you are in for uncomfortable climate and conditions you need people who are prepared like the marines. That's why people call me. At the end of the day say what you want like me or not I plain straight up get the job done to spec on time on budget with the best quality possible. Having shot and worked with Jay-Z, 50, Rick Ross, Fabolous, Fat Joe the only one left is Eminem - who truthfully I would love to direct for. We'll wait and see. This video was awesome. Working with Parris and Island Def Jam I really saw and learned a few more things which all add to the craftsmanship at the end of the day. There are a lot of directors who forget about the people who work with them Parris is definitely not one of those. He knows what he wants and will give you a shot - you just better be able to deliver. Looking forward to more.

Shot on location in Queens with two Red MX's and an Angenieux and a set of Red Pro Primes this video definitely captured a nice New York City look. We shot on the roof of the Ravel hotel and I am very grateful to the location contact Natassa Contini who was stellar in her accommodation of the artists and crew. We had a pretty demanding schedule with narrow talent windows a surprise cameo, and a company move within the location. The track is hot and the crew really delivered on this. I want to now be known as a solid Director and Producer and I think having the knowledge of multiple areas of production definitely helps stretch budgets, crew and resources but gets people to work cohesively in furtherance of good work. The Roots featuring Jim James directed by Jason Goldwatch and produced by yours truly was an exciting shoot that had three days of principal photography in New York. The video features a lot of cab mounts that were all shot on location in Harlem, Bed Stuy and Soho area. Decon Creative Inc reached out to sign me as a producer on what will surely be a stylish video. DP Rob Gilbert and Jason Goldwatch the director shot using the 7D and Red Pro Primes. I learned quite a bit watching these guys work.
Jeremy and Karl did an excellent job with the taxi mounts and I am sorry all I have is the iphone pics which really don't do the set ups justice. This was a very demanding shoot given the budget and three days of principal photography. It was great working with these guys and I look forward to the edit and bigger and better projects with Decon.

Pornstar Dancing Color grading session Nice Dissolve

Color grading session for my Darkest Days "Pornstar Dancin" featuring Ludacris, Chad Kroeger & Zakk Wylde. Being ahead of the pack means putting forth the extra time, money & resources that separate you from the regular shoot. I always would hear Matt talk about the significance of post work flow for Red but the magnitude of this never comes to light until you experience two things 1) shooting on Mysterium-X Red and 2) being part of a post- production work flow that is technically able to bring out the best of what you shot. Working with the guys at Nice Dissolve in Brooklyn was an illuminating experience in that I was able to dive in to some of the technical post aspects that go short changed on a lot of productions. This is due in large part to ignorance of the process and budget. Sometimes producers can't afford the work flow. However, my view is if you are going to do something you might as well do it right. After seeing the results of the color grading, and working with Red Cine, and exporting using Red Rocket the result was like looking at footage that had literally been unearthed. A grey film layer is removed and the colors are so much more vibrant that the depth of field, detail and vibrancy are increased ten fold. I am definitely going to make it a practice to employ and good color grade whenever I shoot. There will always be the directors and producers that do the low budget work arounds including on production. What makes our phone ring is quality, service and excellence. My Darkest Days "Pornstar Dancin" featuring Chad Kroeger, Ludacris & Zakk Wylde. Vegas baby!! First I would like to say that this was by far the largest and most intensive production that I have helmed to date. I am extremely grateful to Roy Lamanna and Island Def Jam for the opportunity in directing this project and believe that the work product will definitely be a testament to my ability to deliver big! Shot on location in Las Vegas Nevada, at the brand new Hard Rock hotel this was a very well orchestrated production thanks to a solid California crew led by producers Luga Podesta & Christian Heuer. As this was my biggest directing opportunity, I wanted to pull out all the stops. We had 2 MX Reds, Steadicam, 2 sets of Red Pro Primes, and a 7D PL mount which didn't really see any work. Matt Workman delivered on this and I was really happy with the way he worked with the CA crew. The whole production was seamless thanks in large part to Isaac Heckert who is a terrific 1st AD. I know production and know what I want to see and when people can actualize your vision its truly gratifying. This all could not be possible without a terrific band. My Darkest Days is a kick ass band that will definitely be making a mark out there. The cameos by Chad Kroeger, Ludacris and Zakk Wylde were the icing on the cake. Everyone was a pleasure to work with and I can honestly say the edit is going to get me some big work. The video looks hot!!! What do you do when the camera package has officially hit the 100K mark - shoot a Purina commercial. Testing out the new Red Pro Primes proved the money is well spent. I read a line that said you didn't compromise on the camera - why compromise on the lenses. They are truly beautiful and and definitely put the camera package in a big league cinema category with the new ARRI MB-14 Matte Box and FF-4 Follow Focus. Shot in Long Island with the Segreto Family - the shoot was really good. The Segreto Family was extremely hospitable and I am grateful for the cooperation and the home cooked meal after we wrapped. Producer Georgina Prentice reached out to NYLAHD for some last minute support on what turned out to be an eventful video shoot. Fat Joe & Young Jeezy "Aha" the track is banging and so was the stylized directing by Parris. If we had more notice we probably could have accomplished a lot more but this seems to be the motto of a lot of music video production these days. They greenlight stuff at the last minute leaving crews to scramble and gather resources at the last minute. Nonetheless everyone stepped up to the plate and the camera jib shots will surely make the video. P Diddy made a cameo and the crew worked well given the amount of people. Matt is pretty exciting to watch. With the right team these guys could pull off some spectacular stuff.

Probably one of the best shoots that I have been on. The track is banging and the crew was on point. This project literally came together at the last minute for various reasons. G-Unit and Director Broadway reached out knowing that if anyone can put together a solid production at the 11th hour NYLAHD can. Building on Crime Wave and Flight 187 this video takes production value to a whole new level. The video is going to be hot. Cleanly shot with a solid production crew that used two studios at RootBrooklyn with double Red's and steadicam it was an involved production with cars being moved in and out while cast and crew would rotate studios. I also developed a new hobby set photography. I think I shot 2000 pictures on the 7D raw. I can definitely see myself doing more photography. The shoot was great, the cast, location, stylist, and choreographer were on the money. The Undergrad is the story of a man recently released from prison who makes his way back to his old neighborhood only to be drawn into a hustlers world where eventually he encounters trouble. Within the story framework is the story of a man who is actually very gifted and has academic promise which goes unfulfilled. The actors were all unknown and new comers - the best to work with. The film was shot on location in Pittsburgh PA in eleven days. This was my first feature film directing opportunity. The people of Pittsburgh were terrific as was the crew. I am very grateful for the opportunity and know that this film will garner some attention. Just got a couple of photos back from the 50 Cent shoot courtesy of Diana Levine (also a camera operator 5D) on the shoot for 50. This was an FX day involving some gun and squib stuff that was used within the video for Crime Wave which is an awesome track. We shot at J&M effects in Brooklyn. The rest of the video used different people with predominately the 5D as the main camera. I wish I could have written a treatment for this video that was non-stop action with safe doors getting blown open, pillows to the head and straight crime, maybe soon who knows. Great Commercial shoot for iWrapz and iphone accessory that will soon be making a big impact on the fashion phone accessory scene. This was a long but fun day with Director Roberto Lopez. Also a far cry from the bullet ridden chicken shack we worked on for his last film Lost Brother shot in Newark NJ. The iWrapz shoot had four locations yes four company moves. We actually did five as we grabbed another West Side Highway jogging sequence. We started out in the meatpacking district working with a Boxer, moved to Wall St., for a shot of an executive with a flashy Lamborghini, moved up to Pearl St, to Brooklyn Banks where we shot some BMX riding, and then back to the meatpacking district for a night model shoot. All permitted and well organized thanks to yours truly. I really have to say the crew was exceptional and everyone worked really well together.

Got to drive a Lamborghini and tell Redman to go park it after I tipped him a dollar -then he stole it and the dollar too. Lot of fun. What a weekend!! First an amazing shoot for artist 50 Cent which I want to speak more about but which is being kept quiet until the release. We were both flown down there and shown some real southern hospitality. The crew was fantastic. The best group of people. I really enjoyed this shoot and James impressed me with some range in terms of visual coverage. We shot four videos for Zaq. All different in style and theme. Twenty extras didn't show - the Fire Department came by after the hazer set off the club alarm and we had to deal with getting a select number of shots in a small window. Big thanks to Frank who came through even though the budget didn't, Matt for dealing with the location and doing a great job lighting, Tracy for staying on top of the schedule and managing a multitude of tasks, Osaliki, for bartending and rigging, Tony, JP and Greame who did a great job with G&E, Diana for set photo and cameo and Marc Miller & Marc Levine for all their support while I'm at work trying to put this together.
