Its been a whirlwind of activity since we opened the midtown offices and we are ramping up for a number of productions. I can only share snippets of this as its still in post and going through the rounds but we shot 2 videos for Lacuna Coil an Italian rock band that are truly awesome to work with. We shot on location at the same place where they filmed a scene from Martin Scorsese's "The Departed" I don't want to give too much about the location as its a gem and also I'm still in post but I am really excited about this video the new alliances that can come from opportunities like this and the crew who kicked ass. I wish I could share more about the production but stay tuned for the video and go out and buy their records so we can make more of these!!NYLAHD - Brendan Cochranehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03628506274918863762noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-716043488082358858.post-27706196800030294722012-05-16T22:15:00.002-07:002012-05-16T22:15:49.726-07:00Usher "Untitled Performance"

This was definitely something different and I was truly grateful and thrilled to have been a part of this. Usher performed as part of a show called 'Fuerza Bruta' we were called in by anonymous liaisons to document for Usher this awesome performance. The show which is basically an interactive performance piece meaning the audience stands and is surrounded by this strange and wondrous world was incredible to watch and film. Particularly watching dancers swim above you. The music was also killer and the Rick Ross track featuring Usher is a video that if I could make I would blow the doors off what they normally would expect. We are getting approached by bigger and bigger companies seeking everything from Red technical support to full creative and production. I am really happy with the steps we are taking the client base we are establishing and the building blocks we are laying. Peter Gatien the old owner of the Limelight used to mix up the crowd having a small percentage of different demographics, cultures, people and characters. That lead to some of the best parties in the history of New York. I wanted to do the same thing with production. Establishing a hub where huge commercial companies and clients can go and also the little independent filmmaker or artist who just has a whole lot of drive and heart. Both will feel just as welcome and both will recognize the balance and potential in each others respective roles. We are rebranding our imagery, becoming a solid production resource for practically anyone and most importantly we deliver when its crunch time. So if you are a company considering putting together a full production - know we are committed and we are in it for the long haul. Thanks to Usher - he is an awesome artist!NYLAHD - Brendan Cochranehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03628506274918863762noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-716043488082358858.post-8321764659402036562012-05-16T21:56:00.002-07:002012-05-16T21:56:46.093-07:00'Diggy' "2 Up" Director Clifton Bell - Producers Brendan Cochrane and Executive JeVonne Cortez

A fun shoot for artist 'Diggy' who has a catchy sound and who will probably be rising the ranks of mainstream media if they market him correctly and he continues to produce. I'm probably more familiar with his parents era having grown up in Queens and being a huge Run DMC & Beastie Boys fan but those days are slowly fading and its amazing that kids today aren't even familiar with a lot of the pioneering lineage. Definitely want to express my thanks to GhettoNerd always enjoy working with Cliff and family and a really big special thanks to Canoe Studios who were stellar in there accommodations. BBQ, tiramisu and awesome catering on a hip hop shoot is rare and even rarer done well. The Canoe family are really good people and if I get the big budgets I would definitely like to bring them more business. Thanks to everyone who came out.NYLAHD - Brendan Cochranehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03628506274918863762noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-716043488082358858.post-7257723044934634362012-03-29T09:57:00.003-07:002012-03-29T10:10:25.571-07:00NYLAHD NEW STUDIO SPACE AND COLOR CORRECTION BASE

NYLAHD opened a new studio space on 38th & 8th. To quote Director Clifton Bell "you have to speak it into existence" So here are the goals to be spoken. I want to follow a similar model to Ridley or Tony Scott; Direct & Produce TV, commercial, music video and film work and have a company that is a full service company. A company capable of providing everything from technical support to creative from pre-to-post production in virtually any genre and do it well. So here is to a great beginning to 2012. With new offices and full color correct capabilities, in house studio and three Reds an Epic X, Red MX and Scarlet X as well as full lens set and camera support NYLAHD can now service major league productions simultaneously. What was awesome about working with A76 was that they wanted our system on set and our guys matching different formats to send off to their post producer. In hindsight I learned a few things that would help for future productions but these guys are great to work with and the work product is stand out. Looking forward to more large scale productions. The system we own that these guys were using is a 12 Core Mac Pro with 24 Ram, Red Rocket, Cubix Expansion Chasis, Cal Digit Raid 8TB, Avid Control with Davinci Resolve, Adobe, Final Cut.NYLAHD - Brendan Cochranehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03628506274918863762noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-716043488082358858.post-60129765116655922562012-03-29T08:52:00.003-07:002012-03-29T09:18:01.068-07:00Nike The Chance Director Jonathan Bregel Variable Producer Brendan Cochrane DP Bruce Francis Cole

When I got the call from Director Jonathan Bregel to produce a Nike commercial I was grinning ear to ear. Jon had officially formed his company Variable with co-creative minds Khalid Mohtaseb and Tyler Ginter who at the time were busy with a Pennzoil commercial. These guys do outstanding work and are very demanding in terms of their standards as am I. So it was both an honor and refreshing to be given the reigns to handle what at the time was a heavy sports themed commercial. The Chance is basically a competition that encourages kids from all over the world to film their soccer playing friends and upload that footage in hope of getting signed by one of the best professional teams in the world. On top of this was the fact that this spot would be narrated by Spike Lee - someone whom I tremendously respect and admire - especially for films like the 25th Hour and Inside Man. I worked on Clockers years ago and seeing Spike and the body of work he has amassed was incredible. I really want to share so much here but hopefully we can collaborate one day. The commercial was shot over several days one day at Spike's 40 Acres location and another at Thomas Jefferson Park - thanks to Parks Department and all the kids who participated. Bruce Cole was the Director of Photography and I love working with Bruce. We had a Phantom. Camera cart, Epic X, Scarlet X and a steadicam. The commercial was almost in the final stages of post - when the powers that be decided they wanted a different commercial. So we shot another one see below. I hope that one day this one can see the light of day as it was energetic and really captured kids passion for the sport of soccer.NYLAHD - Brendan Cochranehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03628506274918863762noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-716043488082358858.post-88762079297300128802012-03-29T08:44:00.002-07:002012-03-29T08:52:02.282-07:00Google Producer Joel Kretschman technical camera support NYLAHD
Project with producer Joel Kretschman for Google. All I can say is we got down to business and made a short film that tells the coming of age story of Red a character who was and is a product of so many urban environments that gravitates to desperate acts and whose insight and understanding is not life lived as his life is cut short. This project was particularly important to me in several respects. One I love working with Cliff and GhettoNerd, and Two I love the filmmaking process. Deeper than that though were the subtle nuances that are not readily apparent to the average person. Authenticity is something that I am big on and characters and structure are all intertwined - so we needed an environment that spoke about this condition. Patterson NJ resonated and really provided a great back drop for this story. The action day was the icing on the cake. I love action and 2nd Unit stunts as that's where my Roots are going back to feature film. Love the track Make My and definitely excited about the album. Thanks to Cliff, JeVonne and everyone that was a part of this. That's something we are looking to really strengthen in 2012. There are a number of companies that have boutique areas specializing in one aspect of production. We seek to bring all of that under one umbrella and you call one number and we get it done to spec period. You tell us what you want how you want it and we'll make it happen. If we don't have it - we'll find it. And if we don't know about it we'll find someone that does - which is what we did on this job as there was some challenging audio elements. We put together the team that they were happy with. Thanks to Skype and all the surprise bands that were a part of this. In 2012 we hope to really step up the presence as being the company that quality Ad agencies, production companies and independent producers can seek out to create and produce their concepts and content no matter what the scale. It came down to eight participants - all blogging to be the winner of Nokia's Style Correspondent and featured in January issue of Elle. The winning criteria was a combination of fashion blogging and the use of Nokia N8's smart phone to capture the NYC fashion experience. UK agency 1000 heads reached out to NYLAHD to capture the entire experience the eight finalists experience while in NYC during fashion week. It was an exciting week complete with celebrities, fashion shows, dinners, famous bloggers - so famous they name apparel after them! And of course NYC night life. Producer Elspeth Brown did an amazing job considering the amount of locations, production obstacles - such as competing paparazzi, and the run and gun DSLR set ups with separate audio. The team was slimmed down and the footage looks great - definitely looking forward to the edit and more work with 1000 Heads.
Back in New York for a quick studio shoot that ended up being changed and changed again for cameo schedules and then a different track. Ace Hood has a really great sound and great delivery. I'll be honest to say when I heard the name and knew the variables I was like another hip hop video who? After listening to the track and seeing Ace perform he will definitely surprise you. I also have to give a special thanks to William Marshall Art Department who is going to be the new 'go to guy' he can build anything and is beaming ear to ear when he does it which means he is enthusiastic about work which I love. Shout out to Clifton Bell who is on a roll!

What an awesome shoot with a terrific crew for artists J Cole & Tre Songz and a surprise cameo.
I wish I could post some of the set photos which really highlight what a great shoot this was but I understand they are keeping a tight wrap on this project until its release. This project will definitely put Clifton Bell on the map for some large scale productions.
I was grateful that Cliff asked me to assistant direct and come down and keep things on schedule. We had a number of challenges one of them being they decided to shoot a completely different video the day before we were scheduled to shoot which left everyone scrambling to accommodate the new treatment. Another challenge was communication. Going into a different country with a mixture of US and local crew with no walkies was challenging to coordinate multiple set ups, company moves and logistics of equipment and resources involved. Despite all the obstacles, I have a new appreciation for the video commissioner who made me a true believer. There is definitely a method to her madness and this video was far better than what was originally proposed. The crew, director and talent really brought this one home. I am really grateful to have been a part of this and it will be stand out work. Brandon Cox DP shot on 2 Epic M's and one exciting detail is switching batteries by Jet Ski when the camera is on one boat and the equipment on another. Special thanks to the people of Barbados who were awesome. I hope I can return there soon!
As an update here is the video:

Get More: J. I am really excited to have the opportunity to land our first working relationship with Decca, Shameless, Universal UK. Basically its pretty common that LA and other major cities have strong production companies to look to for large projects with short turn around times. New York is pretty open. We seek to be that 'go to company' for every type of production from independent to large scale multi-day shoots. When Decca reached out we only had a few days prep, and there were several challenges as we were communicating with the 6 hour time difference and answers and decision making needed to be undertaken quickly if we were going to be able to accomplish the treatment which involved multiple set ups. Derek Pike was great to work with because he cares about the work and is very focused. A lot of times directors have an idea of what they want but are not conscious of company moves, set up and break down times, external factors that may affect production, and time. Derek literally shot for the edit and was right on schedule. The production was seamless and the dailies look great. I'm definitely looking forward to more projects with the UK. I would also like to thank the Mayor's Office and the New York City Parks Department who were extremely accommodating under the tight turn around given. Special thanks also to the crew who kicked ass on this one: Karl Kim, Bruce Cole, Big Shot Productions, Rob Lau, Film Emporium, Robyn, Natasha, Elspeth, Graeme, Elliott, and Charlie. I will probably supplement the blog later as I can't talk too much about the actual footage until its released. The footage, track, and the crew worked tirelessly to get the best product given the budget. This one is definitely going to make some heads turn. There should be a New York Times article coming out shortly which will detail the brief hiatus and which will definitely illuminate the company and personal challenges faced and overcome.
I'm definitely grateful to my fiance Elspeth Brown who held down the company during my absence. Coming from the dance world with aspirations to direct and produce Elspeth will add a different dynamic to the company which I am excited to see as we are already in pre-production on new original programming. We have expanded to a brand new team and are transitioning into original content and new media production. We will of course continue to build upon the success of the music video and commercial world - continuing to build and grow with solid relationships with both companies and people that have gone on to do some great work. The new frontier will see NYLAHD as the premier 'go to' company from everything from commercials, music videos, and viral campaigns to narrative and original programming. We have added some team members which over time you will see blossom and grow as new and exciting projects develop. Shot on location at my residence on Red MX this was a dual dance and narrative piece geared for promotional use by the dance company. Shot in Sandy Hook NJ NYLAHD provided camera support to Florencio Films. This gave me a chance to test out my new camera cart with back up battery and Mitchell Mount and Monitor stud.
The cart has now been officially upgraded to have a 27" iMac for dailies which is popular in the photo world. I feel confident that with budgets coming back and people demanding the latest and greatest technical support having large scale dailies and the addition of two 17" Mac Books on set color and editing will be a popular resource. Good shoot overall - first time working with Marshall Coles who is very talented.NYLAHD - Brendan Cochranehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03628506274918863762noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-716043488082358858.post-18429976589876546982010-11-29T19:37:00.000-08:002010-11-29T20:02:51.844-08:00SuperBlox Commercial Director Noah Posnick Producer Brendan Cochrane

A terrific action packed shoot with The Thrill Mill and Director Noah Posnick for Cra-Z-Art's Super Blox. We shot in Mendham NJ on a large estate with about twelve mini set ups involving Marines, Firefighters, Police, and an Astronaut all descending on a house and making their way to a kids room where they need more Super Blox. Going into the project I was concerned about the daylight and the amount of coverage we needed as well as the transitions and whether the crew could work cohesively to pull this off. Being an effective producer means being able to keep the crew and client happy and get the job done to the T.
The crew I put together did an awesome job - they were flawless. I have to say this was probably the most efficient crew I have worked with to date. Big thanks to Director Noah Posnick, Thrill Mill, Posnick Advertising, All the actors, Cra-Z-Art, Matt Workman, Diana, AD James Fitzgerald, AC Rob Lau, 2nd Dan Brosnan, Karl Kim Gaffer, Jeremy Rodriguez Key Grip, Tony Segreto 2nd 2nd, Elspeth Brown Wardrobe, Chavvah Stuart Production Coordinator and Tara Singleton catering. This video relied heavily on Art Department and I have to say that Lesley Morphy of LAM studios really came through with some pretty awesome set ups especially given the parameters she was working with. Don't want to give away too much about the video so you will have to check it out but its definitely got some stand out moments. Got a chance to put NYLAHD's new camera cart to the test. Its definitely a production asset and now I have back up battery location power for DIT work. Listening to other producers talk about the budgets of yester year was pretty deflating given the current state of things but with good work comes good projects, people, and opportunities -and that is my motto if you do good work the phone will ring which it is. So again more to come or on to the next one - which I can't post till its out - but I have a bunch of new projects and content coming out so stay tuned.NYLAHD - Brendan Cochranehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03628506274918863762noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-716043488082358858.post-78157806315007061802010-11-11T18:36:00.000-08:002010-11-11T18:50:44.836-08:00Ginuwine "What Could Have Been" Director Clifton Bell Producer Brendan Cochrane DP Karl Kim

You know what time it is working with Director Clifton Bell and Ghettonerd LLC. Ever since Bruce Cole introduced me to Cliff we have been on a roll and looking forward to bigger endeavors as the new year draws close. Ginuwine was a relaxed shoot even though we had multiple locations, a driving sequence, two performances and two company moves. The day worked really well thanks to a tight knit crew and AD Knia Bond. Ginuwine was very cool to work with as was all the Church people who comprised the wedding scene.
